‘Minha Casa, Minha Vida’ was launched by the Brazilian government in 2009 with a budget of R$36 billion (US$18 billion) to build 1 million homes.
Additional funds were recently ring-fenced by the Brazilian government to construct a further 400,000 homes in the Natal region.
The programme’s objective is to develop approximately 24 million low cost properties for low-income Brazilian families earning up to a maximum of 6 times the national minimum wage (approximately R$724 per month as at July 2014)
